Full-face snorkel masks are available in all shapes and sizes. This is what the DuikeninBeeld testing team thought about the Sea Turtle Deluxe mask.
The Sea Turtle Deluxe snorkel mask is without a doubt an eyecatcher. It is a round mask with a click snorkel. The click mechanism works well; the snorkel may be attached quickly and there is only one way to attach it. Rather than an O-ring seal, this mask has silicone on the inside. When we put the mask on, it was a somewhat tight fit and the flexible tube of the snorkel presses against your head; not a nice feeling. The curve of the mask results in a slight distortion of the view.
We also experienced this distortion underwater, and the effect is similar to watching a 3D movie without 3D glasses. You are forced to keep focusing, particularly if you want to see something close up. This distortion is not as bad with objects viewed from a distance. The mask’s tight feeling dissipates, but the flexible part of the snorkel continues to press uncomfortably against your head. The breathing comfort is good and the purge valve works fine. With one of the testers, the snorkel mask fogged up slightly around the edge, but it wasn’t distracting.
However, because of the distorted view, the testers wouldn’t be so quick to choose this mask.
Important: don’t confuse this mask with its “little brother”, Sea Turtle, which truly belongs to a different and better class of products!
